The $51 million North Tower Renovations consisted of several OSHPD-1 projects constructed within the occupied hospital, requiring careful planning to minimize disruption to surgeons, staff, and patients.
All projects, including the remodel of ORs, PACU, ED, Radiology rooms and Pharmacy, required phased coordination. Their scopes included asbestos work, infection control, interim life safety and tie-ins to critical care utilities. Herrero accommodated user equipment changes in the middle of projects with minimal schedule impact. Prior to starting construction, Herrero proactively surveyed the existing field conditions and uncovered numerous corrections to the design drawings. This preconstruction effort allowed us to provide accurate budgets and schedules to the owner. All of the Herrero projects at CPMC Davies are run using the principles and tools of Lean Construction. This created a collaborative, reliable, and predictable environment for all team players.
One project in particular of the North Tower Renovation entailed critical coordination aspects of work - the complete remodel of two (2) acute inpatient rehabilitation floors. Patient life systems, headwalls, personal A/V units and nurse call systems were installed in approximately 50 patient rooms, as well as four IT rooms, two conference rooms.
